Can the iPhone send stereo mp3 over bluetooth to a car stereo with bluetooth?

The only time i ever listen to music is in my car, and I thought it would be really cool to have an iPhone that I could use as my iPod while in the car, but have it play the music over bluetooth.

I currently have an iPod nano 4g and connect it to my Pioneer headunit with their iPod adapter, but it's a pain the the ass to disconnect the iPod everytime I leave my car. It would be so simple to just press a button and have my phone sync to the headunit.

even if it did, there is loss of quality

I would take the loss in quality to rid myself of having 2 devices (even though the nano is pretty damn small as it is).

It cannot YET. The iPhone 3.0 Software will bring A2DP (bluetooth stereo) support come this summer. Prolly around late June/early July.

You won't even need an adapter!

Short answer: No
Long answer: The original iphone, no. The 3G iphone will probably be able to when the 3.0 FW launched in July, assuming your stereo is using A2DP over bluetooth.

Yes.
I just got done looking at a Nissan Murano with a Bose audio and navigation system. I dont like Bose, but their setup was nice. The cars bluetooth could run your cell phone and iPod. Sound would come out through the car speakers, and the same mic used for the navigation system would also be used for your phone.
Pretty sweet actually. I didnt buy the Murano, but it was nice to see some modern technology instead of my crummy ass Chevy.

EDIT:
But I should mention I wasnt using an iPhone, I was using an LG Voyager.

They were lying about the iPhone / iPod touch. See above.

Yeah, it doesn't work. The Voyager supports A2DP out of the box, so that's why it worked.

Only iPods with bluetooth adapters would work with that set up.

What kind of car do you have? They make several types of adapters... some of them are actually USB so your phone charges WHILE you are listening to Pandora in your car!

Too good to be true, right?

The beta for 3.0 has been jailbroken, so there is no need to wait till summer.

I would think this would kill the battery on the iphone pretty quick and then you are right back to connecting it to a cable again.

But the problem would be that bluetooth receiver would have to be recognized as stereo bluetooth. You can only stream MP3's to headsets that are enabled, so whatever you are using to receive the signal in your car would have to be enabled.

(trying not to get too complicate)
(wrong forum)
