Can the GT86 drift?

I keep telling myself to not get excited about this car, that its styling isn't great and it doesn't make a lot of power, but I still eagerly await each and every bit of news that comes out about this car.

Can not wait to drive one!

I can't wait till this car comes out. Looks to be just awesome. Fun to drive, RWD, decent gas mileage, likes to rev, cheap...what is not to like for an enthusiast.

Not like it matters, I give that car maybe 10 minutes on a lot before some tuner house has a turbo kit out.

Nice little car but I'd never spend that kind of money on a sports car that can't decisively run away from even a Camry or Sienna while driving to work on a Friday afternoon...

It can easily run away, as long as you have to go around a turn on the way to work 😉

This thing won't be a speed demon in a straight line but it looks like it will be fun to drive on a curvy road.

I really do wish I didn't care about people next to me being douchebags and that I could just look the other way. It would make life so much easier and I could enjoy many many cars I'm missing out on. Being in only a Camry for so many years as my first car and being bullied by well... everything... really screwed me up.

I feel this car is to appeal to car enthusists who can't afford anything. The car is nice and light but anybody with more disposable income would I'm sure prefer other sports cars to this. I would like to drive one to the track but I think the S2000 if tweaked right is a better car just from stats and from what the testers have been saying about this FT-86 compared to what they said about the S2000 10 years ago

Engine sounds good for a 4-banger. Chassis looks incredibly balanced and tossable. Around 9:30 he talks about the design philosophy, which is exactly the design philosophy of the Miata: less power, less weight, less grip, more forgiving, more balance, more connected, more fun. I think it'll be a win.

This. I see this becoming as common in my area as the Camry is. Initial pricing will keep it out of that hands of the people, but the demand will quickly exhaust and you'll be able to pick one up cheap.

I see this car being replacing the "vtec-yo" mentality quick.

Well, since my first and current car is a Camry, I guess by this logic...I will be just like you.

Hmm...

I dunno where you live in az but I imagine its fairly flat and straight. If you lived somewhere like where I do where it's reasonably curvy might think different.

I still think if this car came out the same time the RSX came out in 2002 (that K series engine is 12 years running with honda). Or maybe 2004/2005 when Subaru decided to bring the STI over, this would have been the first gen FT-86/BRZ. After "fixing" what needed to be corrected with what the market desired we would be getting a new engine/generation of this car with the turbo/Direct injection etc.

If this car would have come out 6-8 years ago this would have been a no brainer. Now its like you have to sacrifice space/comfort/speed for cornering. I always expected this from a miata but even if the miata upgrades to 200hp coming up with its next gen I would still prefer the miata because its even lighter and has a folding roof

i'm starting to hate myself for liking the BRZ more and more. that video makes it look like a blast to drive. if subaru would release a turbo version it would sell like hotcakes.

it would definitely be nice to have the extra power of a turbo too. i'm not asking for much, just 300 hp and 250 ft/lbs of torque. well, maybe i am asking for too much. but this car shouldn't jump into the HP Wars foray.

the other sentiments express here, "it will be the new 'it's got v-tech, yo' crowd", i agree with. i expect that there will be lots of thrashed scions on the market and many boy racers thinking that this is the best car since the RSX-S.

Even if it ends up being a good car, the stupid hype makes it somewhat unattractive. I agree with the "v-tech yo" comment.
