If you have a 26 inch widescreen tv could you measure the picture diagonaly while watching a regular definition (4x3) tv channel?
I am trying to see how it would compare to a 20inch regular 4x3 tv picture.
thanks.

Why don't you do it the nerdy way? :D

a^2+b^2=c^2

c=26"

and wide screen TVs have a 16:9 aspect.

You use that to find the height, and then use that to find the diagonal of a 4:3 image.

You'll be glad to hear that my students will know how to do this... well... hopefully. (If I end up teaching math, which I don't think is out of the question)
