I'm looking for something with atleast a 3.5 inch blade, something like a lockback style...I just want a good knife that I can use for all sorts of little things here and there. I suppose I could buy a $5 lockback, but I would prefer a quality brand...?
I love Kershaw knives. My current carry is the Tactical Blur.

I love my Gerber AR 3.0s. I have two of them, one I got on clearance for $20 at Lowe's, the other I got for 75% off at Target ($10). Carry one everywhere. They normally go for $40, and I'd have no problem spending $40 on another.

Benchmade Griptilian (or anything else for that matter). Scott Cook Lochsa (you didn't mention a price range). I like my kershw, but it can't hold an edge to save it's life; any Kershaw named after a type of onion (leek, chive, etc) should be better. Spyderco (if you can get past the styling). Once you go to the $50-75 range, you have a tremendous amount of quality options available to you.

The Gerber Paraframe II is also a nice blade. It is a little larger than the Air Ranger I posted earlier. One drawback to it (IMHO) is that one part of the handle does have a tendency to hang on your pocket (or whatever you are clipping it to) when you insert it.

Not quite as large as you indicated you want, but the Buck NXT is a nice knife as well.

There are some really good knives mentioned here - I mainly go with stuff you can pick up at any mass merchant/mainstream sporting goods store. You would be amazed at how much Wal-Mart will discount knives when they want to move them. 😀 I think that is where I have picked up 95% of my knives in the last five years.

Avoid the cheapo Smith & wesson knives. Low grade steel that doesn't hold an edge worth a sh!t...
Spyderco, Benchmade are both top quality brands. Cold Steel is another great manufacturer.

Kabar knives hold up very well... I have friends who have knives that they use regularly that are older than I am (39). I've got a couple of Kabar knives as well.

I've owned Ka-Bar knives since 1970. Their military style knives are good. Not sure how their folding knife line is, but I'd presume its good. I own this one, and carried it to work every day for about 6 years:
Ka-Bar Next Gen

I'd have to say the best bang for the buck knife is a Spyderco Native from Walmart, you won't find many knives with an S30V blade in it's price range if any. For a few $ more you can get a Benchmade Griptilian or a Spyderco Delica or Endura. If you want to go for Knives in the $90 to $130 range the are the Spyderco Paramilitary and Military also the Manix and Mini Manix or some Benchmades like the 707 or 710. If you really want to spend some $$ you can get a Chris Reeve Sebenza for $385, a lot of people the the Sebenza is the best production knife you can get. Also Kershaw makes some nice knives for good prices. I also recommend New Graham knives, they have some of the best prices around and are great to deal with.

I have a Benchmade Mini Griptilian Model 555 on the way from New Graham as we speak. I also have a full-size Benchmade Pika and BenchmiteII. I am absolutely intent on getting a Skirmish or one the Doug Ritter S30V Benchmade Griptilians.

I love my Gerber 3.0 AR. They make a 3.5" version (3.5 AR). I like the smooth handle, I don't like the textured or frame-style handles that are common on knives nowadays.
