i currently use allegra, and i dont think it works very well. at night, i have these yellow tablets or benadryl capsules, which both work very well, but they knock me out. allegra is a daytime medicine so it doesnt cause drowsiness but it isnt very effective. i use flonase in the morning, and eye drops. hmm has anyone heard/tried zyrtec? u know, that green pill. does that work? i hate hay fever and its this time of the year when its worse... *miserable* *sniff* *rubs eyes*

I take Actifed (usually generic version), and it works great. However, I usually take 3 pills at once (1 is recommended dosage), so I try not to operate heavy machinery...

ZYRTEC I think that is how you spell it. You can take it at night or in the morning.

Allegra D will keep you up buy I did not have trouble sleeping when I took the regular Allegra.

Both are in need of a doctors approval.

Maybe I'll double up on the Tavist. Dying today. Watery eyes is the worst...bit of runny nose.

Zyrtec after a few days had no affect, Claratin is worthless on me. Haven't tried Allegra.

The only thing that ever really worked was Seldane (sp?) but they yanked it off the market because some people like died or something. 😕

I've used Claritin which is useless to me. Zyrtec seemed to work but also wore off. I tried Allegra D for a year but I noticed it passes right through my bowel movements (yes I saw it floating around) so it didn't work.

I'm trying Nasacort now. It seems to work for sneezing but it doesn't do anything for my eyes.

And like Conjur said, Seldane was the only thing that really worked for me too but they yanked it off the mkt. I guess my kidneys can thank the FDA for that.

I have pretty bad allergies and Zyrtec seems to work great most of the time (if taken once a day). There are days though where Zyrtec doesn't work at all... on those days I go ahead with the normal once a day Zyrtec and back it up with Tylenol Allergy & Sinus (non-drowsy). That combo seems to work even on the worst days.

Claritin is NOT non sedating in its regular dosage, so in the USA, you are only taking half.
Allegra is a metabolite of Seldane, so if Seldane worked well for you try it.
Zyrtec is my favorite.

I use Flonase (it's not a pill, but a nasal spray) and it kicks @ss. None of my allergies effect me anymore. For example, I used to have serious cat issues (3hrs in a cat owners house was my max), and now I can live w/freaking indoor cats (shared an apartment for 8 months w/a cat owner and I never had any problems). One spray per nostrol per day and I'm good to go. And Flonase is not habbit forming, nor does it have "rebounding" side effects (like if you go off it yer allegeries won't come back 2x as bad).

I rarely take meds, but if you try to take away my Flonase I'll break yer arm! 😉

I have gotten around to picking up my claritin so i'm still taking benadryl for now. I've been pretty sleepy all day. 🙂

<< anyone heard/tried zyrtec? u know, that green pill. does that work? >>

uh, i dont know where you get your meds but my zyrtec is white.

i've tried zyrtec, seems to work ok
i've tried claritin, seems to work ok.

havent tried phexophenidine (sp?) yet, but i havent seen spectcacular results from either. $50 for a months supply of claritin/zyrtec is a real kick in the wallet tho.

i think the best bet is to keep trying allergy meds until you can find something that works well. for me, zyrtec and claritin have about the same effect price wise and benefit wise. everybody's allergies are different
