Can someone recomend me a case?

i need to cary my computer on the airplane in carry on and unfortunatley my current box is too big. can someone recommend a cube or a smaller case, smaller than antec lanboy, that has sufficient cooling and lightweight?

1 optical
1 floppy

7800gt with a zalman
opty 148 w/ ac freezer 64 pro


the only thing im worried about is my heatsink not fitting in a cube case. can someone confirm/deny?

Tower heatsinks like the Freezer 64 won't fit in compact cases.

I've used the Lian Li V-600 in the past, it's not exactly tiny but it is smaller then any other mid-ATX case and it's a Lian Li to boot. The only downside is that it shares the same limitation of having to use a low profile heatsink due to the PSU position; I would recommend the Zalman CNPS-7000.

In the V600?, sure. It will house anything a regular ATX case will, the only limitation being the HS/F height.

This is the only case that might be small enough. However even as a computer guy .... If I saw someone carrying that onto a plane I'd be a little worried. It looks too much like a "movie" bomb. I don't know how you think you'll be allowed to take a PC as carry-on.

For smaller then that your limitation is that you are using a regular size ATX motherboard.

With a microATX motherboard you could switch to a Qpack which would be smaller (you'd also need a new CPU cooler). Even after that you may still have major trouble actually taking as carry-on on a plane.

Your best bet is to ship it overnight to where you are going. Much less trouble. No need to change anything. Flying frequently? Invest in a laptop. If there's some special circumstance that isn't clear here let us know.

i have taken pc onto the airplane before. i have a laptop but it cant play games very well and i am taking my computer to the DC lan since its across the country i cant drive.

Which mATX motherboard and cooler are you switching to?

I've taken my Antec Aria as a carry on before. South West, Delta, American, and Alaskian Airlines. I had a GearGrips carrier for some and for others I used a large backpack. The only part of my computer I normaly have to check is my monitor.

Good to know.

Any more details about the process at the security gate would be helpful. Do you pass it through the xray scanner? Do you have to power it on for security like people need to do with laptops?

I've been carry a Shuttle on the plane to France, Germany and U.K. for a business trip.
It's a very painful experience, I got to remove the shuttle cover to prove it is a real PC but a bomb or something at security check points in every airports.
That's the first and last time I carry a shuttle for a trip.
If I have to travel with a PC, notebook is my only chose.

yeah i heard it was a hassle, i dont really have an option as its a 38 hour drive to DC and i dont have a car that can handle it, greyhound was more expensive than my airline ticket but i called the airline and they said i just have to be able to xray it and what not
