Hi,
Can someone please suggest a decent and stable codec pack.
I`ve tryed using K-Lite Codec pack, but the DivX things in it are crap, if you atempt to skip part of a video file, it crashes my system.

I like the Kazaa Lite codec pack. It seems simple enough and they update regularly.

the easy thing i do is just install the "real" divx codec cuz now u dont have to install the cheesy divx player with it, then i get nimo and only install the ac3 decoder. for some recent movies i have had to also install the (standalone) xvid codec (easy to find on google).

I started going to DivX for the DivX format and there's a pack somewhere that has AC3 and DivX low motion or some sh!t. But I just use that for AC3.

And then I use the XVid Windows Installer for XVids.

I don't use codec packs anymore. Just had too many muck ups with my last st@b @ Nimo's, although a lot of ppl have used it w/ no problem.

For the last time, WTF is st@b a forbidden word?

I don't use codec packs myself... but having been the "computer guy" on the floor of my dorm (pain in the ass sometimes), I just had everyone install the Kazaa Lite codec pack + ffdshow without problems

I've used Nimo. No problems that I know of. I don't understand why you people hate codec packs. Who the hell has the time to track down a million different codecs?

I`m getting mixed replys here.

Ive conclueded that the codecs that i need, are:-
DivX (latest version)
DivX Anti-Freeze
XviD Encoder
XviD Decoder.

I dont need AC3, as my Soundcard decodes that anyway, so where can i download the individual codecs listed above, and without spyware.

ffdshow does everything you need without fscking up your system, like codec packs can potentially do.

Are you sure?, a need a second opinion, a 3rd if there is one, and maybe a forth.

Yup, ffdshow supports both, and works great. The only reason you may need the real DivX or XviD codecs is if you wanted to run programs like VirtualDub which doesn't support DirectShow filters like ffdshow.

ffdshow is DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing DIVX and XVID movies using libavcodec or xvid with rich set of video postprocessing filters.

What's a DirectShow decoding filter and how is this different from getting Divx and Xvid separately?

Two more questions.
1) Same question as above,
2) Will i need AC3 Filter? As my Audigy decodes AC3 automatically.

Make it three.
Are they stable.
Cos the DivX decoder in the K-Lite Codec Pack reboots my system if you skip part of the video.
