Can someone reccomend me a PCI VideoCard for my system?

My computer is starting to show it's age and I don't have much money ( age 15 and broke )

My system specs are

HP Pavilion 8754C
800 MHZ PIII
256mbs Crucial SDRAM
Windows ME
ASUS Hawk motherboard
Integrated Video Card(82810E I believe) and Sound

So if anyone could help on cheap PCI Video card I should get it'd be much appreciated

your best bet is to get the voodoo2 preferriby 2 of them on Ebay and run them in SLI and use your integrated for 2d, 3dfx would have much better drivers than s3.

So I shouldn't get a Geforce FX 5200 PCI or a Geforce 4 MX? Will it slow down my system THAT bad?

I can sped $150 but that's it...

$0-$150... I just want too play Counter Strike and stuff.. This computer will have to last me another year before I can get a job next year...

I just tried to find some benchmards (on the AGP versions, don't think you will find the PCI benches), and I think that after your reply on the game you want to play, etc... the $78 Radeon 7500 will do fine. At $107, the 5200 may be faster, but I wouldn't want to put money on that at this point, and it is $30 more. I'm sure it is a fine card, but with your CPU If I was you, I would get the 7500, pocket the $30, and wait until you can upgrade everything.

Actually, the best PCI card currently available is the Visiontek 9100 PCI 128mb, which is available this week at CompUSA for $79.99, after rebates. This is a PCI version of the Radeon 8500LE and is clocked at 250/250. It is a bit more powerful than the FX 5200 PCI. Here's the Hot Deals link for ya:

If you don't mind waiting for rebates, this is about the same price as the 7500 PCI and is about $10 cheaper than the much less capable 9000 PCI.

Okay, the only games I would like to play are Half Life Counter Strike and if by any chance this system could handle it with a Radeon 7500 Return to castle wolfenstein and Battlefield 1942....

Try calling your local CompUSA store tomorrow to see if they have some. If they don't, then you are no worse off than you were before, and they might still have some. I got mine the day they arrived at the store, some 3 weeks before they were even offered on CompUSA's website.

The website's offerings are not always an accurate reflection of what's in stock at your local store.

AFAIK, the only places selling the 9100 PCI are CompUSA and a couple of on-line retailers, Tigerdirect and Compuplus. Unless you keep up with PCI cards, it is still somewhat unknown to most folks.

EDIT: Not quite, but almost as good a deal, you can get the 64mb PCI 9100 for $79.99 after rebate, here, but the offer expires on May 31. I don't know if you have to send in the rebate form by the 31st, or if you can send it in a few days later with a proof of purchase that is dated before the 31st. Might give that a try, also.

I wouldn't think so. When I went from a 64mb PCI card to a 128mb card (both were MX440 PCI cards), I didn't really see an increase in framerates. The extra memory, however, did seem to smooth the gameplay out a bit. The only game where I noticed a definite difference was in Max Payne. With the 64mb card, I could only set the video options to medium detail. Any higher and the game would crash back to the desktop. With the 128mb card, I was able to set the game on high detail and it ran just as well as the 64mb card ran it on medium detail level. If you can't get the 9100 PCI for some reason, the 5200 PCI is probably your next best bet. Even with its slow memory, it is still faster than the Powercolor 9000 PCI, which is saddled with a 64-bit memory interface. The 5200 PCI is not a bad PCI card (it's actually better than almost all other PCI cards), it's just not the best.
