Why does the 7900GT have a smaller cooler then the 7800GT.

Why, if any thing i would have thought that the 7900GT would have a Dual slot cooler but it really has a 6600GT cooler(well the size anyway).

Whats up with that, does the 7900GT run so much cooler the the 7800GT?

Anyone care to tell me whats going on?

Die shrink for the win.

My 7900GT runs way cooler than my 6800GT even with it's upgraded cooling.

new manufacturing process, smaller die size, less transistor count and less current leakage == cooler core

Oooo i get it now, thanks for the info but isn't it just amazing that the 7900GT can faster and cooler then the 7800GT esp with a smaller HSF.

By the way all you guys with the 7900GT are you going to change its HSF for an aftermarket one?

I think I read somewere that nvidia wanter to "further the gap between mid-end cards and high-end cards" or something to that affect.

And I'm going straight to watercooling with my 7900GT's (got everything and now I'm just waiting for evga and their slow ass step up)

Yep, I already bought a Zalman VF700 for it. I can't wait to get it.
