Can someone please help

I am having problems with my Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1402. For some reason, it's always worked in the past perfectly fine. But recently, it refuses to read regular CDS/burned CDS. It just spins/spins/can't read. However, if I put in a DVD, it spins for a little, then reads the DVD and I can watch a movie. Do you guys have any idea what's wrong with it? Running WinXP. Please help

Are you using another brand of cd-r's then you did befor ? The reason I'm asking is I once had a cd-rom that would not read this one brand name of cd-r. Also you might want to try using one of those cd-rom cleaner the ones that cleans the len's in them.

I am using the same media (wal mart special, memorex) anwyays, it's always worked fine before. But I just noticed, for like the last 2 months, it won't play cds, and it's wierd because it does play CDS. Does it have 2 separate lasers/lens? if so do i need a dvd and a cd rom cleaner or just one?

Also, how long do DVD players normally last?
