I have a two computer network at home, I am looking for software that will let me control my computer from another networked computer. I tried VNC, it works fine if you have two internet connections, but right now, I only have an internet connection on one of the computers. I need software that will work over the network itself.

if yer runnin' nt4 or win2k, use microsoft terminal services . it's the best thing ever. just put in the machines internal IP and go to town...it's just like logging in to the box physically

I've used VNC over a LAN and it worked fine... just be sure to specify the internal ip address.

To followup on this a bit. For VNC you must run the server on any machine to which you wish to connect. Once you've done that it's just a matter of firing up the vncviewer, or your web browser for the java client, and entering <ip address:X) where X is the display number, typically 0.

<< will vnc work on a router? >>

You won't be able to control the router with VNC, unless you know something I don't. ;)

However, you will be able to control a computer behind the router provided you forward the proper ports to it, namely tcp 580x and 590x, for the web interface and control, respectively. Only tcp 590x is required if you're not going to be using the java web client.
