Can someone please explain something to me?

update: So I talked to online chat, they agreed to authorize a return with no restocking fee and they are sending me a return shipping label as well. I ordered the Samsung 1 TB drive for $80 instead of getting the Hitachi drive again. Looks like it's getting better reviews and fewer instances of issues. GO NEWEGG!

So I bought a hard drive and received it today, DOA, fair enough and I understand it happens.

The all great and powerful newegg does not have an advanced RMA, so I have to ship it back to them. There lies the first problem, they sent me a broken piece of crap and I am responsible for paying for return shipping?!?!

No advanced RMA means I have to wait 4 days for return shipping, 3 days for RMA processing, and another 4 days for the drive to ship back. Basically I'll have my drive sometime in MAY. God forbid I get another DOA.

I need something sooner than that, so can I just return it and buy it locally? Nope. Not without incurring a 15% restocking fee! In the case of a straight return, I do understand paying for return shipping but tagging me with a restocking fee on top of that?

Newegg, wtf?!?!

Best thing to do is call them up and set up a return and they will wave the restock fee if you go ahead and order or say your gonna order a new one.... I have done this before. its kind of like advanced replacement you order the replacement and they refund your first one.

who makes the drive? maybe the manufacturer does advance RMA?

Hitachi. The problem with going through he manufacturer is that they send you a refurb.

Refurbs get checked. I'd rather have a refurb than new.

obviously my tv didn't get checked. I'll never buy refurb again

i got bad ram from them once a few years ago, a quick phone call and I had new stuff on the way, but i did have to eat the return shipping.

Last time I got a dead drive from newegg, I simply ordered a second one, they paid return shipping on the first and refunded it in full since I bought the replacement up front. You give them double money for a bit and they are happy to help.

You must have had an asshole customer rep. cause EACH AND EVERY TIME I've had to return something, NO MATTER THE REASON, they always sent me a prepaid return shipping label and would cross ship overnight.

I usually get a rep that sends a mailing label, refunds the shipping, and sends out a replacement. For small purchases, they have told me to keep the defective merchandise and sent out a new one (small camera case).
