I'm in Toronto, I'm not using binoculars or a telescope, and I just noticed that there's something very bright approximately northwest and 3-4 fingers above the horizon. Anyone know what it is?

I checked a few sites and they don't mention anything of note facing north, only some stuff near the Moon which is towards the south.

Sorry no pics, don't have a camera. But it's the only star-type thing I can see in the sky with all the city glow from inside.

What time of day or night can you see it?

It's likely Venus or Saturn.
Right now. Noticed it around 9.15pm (eastern). It's not Saturn, since that's supposed to be near the moon. I'll look into where Venus is supposed to be....

Thanks for the replies, you were right it is Venus. Thanks for the link Locut0s, very helpful. It's almost at the horizon now, just like the link says. Cool 🙂

If you see something bright in the sky and it's not the sun or the moon, and it's within a couple of hours of sunrise or sunset and it's fairly close to the horizon, Venus should always be your first guess.
