i just got an hdmi to dvi cable....my tv(hitachi 51GWX20B) has a dvi and my verizon cable box has hdmi

i hooked the wire up and got no picture

input 1 on my tv is dvi but input 1 also has components inputs....so when i press input 1 on my remote it says component not dvi, so im thinking it has to be my tv b/c i tried a dvd player also and still no picture

any thoughts....i also posted this at the avs forum but no answer yet so i figured i try here also

Do you have component cables hooked up to input 1 or are they free?

Can you hit input#1 twice on your remote? Maybe it cycles between DVI and Component when you press it?

CONNECTING A COMPONENT SOURCE WITH DVI-HDTV CAPABILITY TO INPUT 1.
1. Connect the DVI connection cable from the output of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the DVI-HDTV input as shown on
the TV set at right.
2. Connect the cable from the AUDIO OUT R of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the INPUT (AUDIO/R) jack.
3. Connect the cable from the AUDIO OUT L of the HDTV set top box or DVD player to the INPUT (AUDIO/L) jack.
4. Press the VID1 button to view the program from theHDTV set top box or DVD player. The VIDEO label disappears automatically
after approximately four seconds.
5. Press ANT button to return to the previous channel.

Yeah, seems like what he did.

I searched for DVI in the rest of the manual and didn't turn up anything about special settings you need to enable.

Could it be HDCP related? That copy protection garbage is a PITA. I have little experience, but I've already been bitten by it with my new up converting DVD player which won't output HD signals out of component. I just read something tonight about how DVI is not HDCP compliant so it might not accept the cable signal (or, cable signal might not like the DVI input).

Seems like that might be what they're talking about here, but it says that it can display it.

"3. When connecting a Set-Top-Box with a copy-protect digital out terminal, a high definition picture can be displayed on the screen in its digital form."

Can you test the cable out on something else? Like an lcd with a dvi input? You say you tried a dvd player... with the same cable?

yes i tried the dvd player no luck

i connected the optical fiber to my reiciver and i got sound with the dvi hdmi hooked up and nothing else hooked up

so i got sound but no pic

So the DVD player has HDMI and you tried that too?

(seems like that's what you said, but just want to make sure)

Are you turning the components off before making these connections? Digital connections tend to have more issues with being connected right away upon powering on the devices.

yes dvd has hdmi also with no luck

my cable box is a motorola hd dvr QIP6416-2 i have verizon fios tv

if that helps

im going to try and disconnect everythin g right now and then plug it back in

still nothing...i unhooked the fiber optioc cable and just put in the red and white cables...still got sound but no pic

when i press video 1 on the remote this is what it says

YPBPR:1
VID 1

it says nothing about dvi which the dvi is also on vid 1?

I know you've said it before, but you don't have anything else plugged in, right?

It seemed from the manual that there wouldn't be anything else you would need to do to enable the DVI input. Have you hunted around in the TV menu to see if there's anything for selecting input types?

no nothing else is plugged in....yes ive been searching around the menu and cant find anything

thanks for all the help im going to call it a night...im sure ill be adding to this thread again tomo

I just did some searching on google for your model number and "DVI" and didn't see anything that indicates this is a common issue or any indication of an easy fix 🙁
