Can someone help me with an AutoCad question?

The architect just sent me the latest plans for my house. In the past he'd sent each floor seperately, but now they're all in one drawing. He said:

"I used BONUS layers w/ the ACAD where you can open up the lower floor & upper floors."

Does anyone know how to view these 'bonus' layers? Hey, just cause I have a copy of AutoCad2000 doesn't mean I know how to use it.

Here's the plan (43K) if you want to take a look

The layers are frozen. I'm using AutoCAD 14. Have a look in the layer scroll-down menu. I think they're the second level layers.

i'm guessing each floor has a separate layer, so you can just turn each layer on/off to view whatever layer you want
in the object properties toolbox, the layers are in pull-down menu (several icons in it). you can click the light bulb icon to turn a layer on/off

hope that helps... btw i have no idea what BONUS layer is, that might be the name of the layer

I just don't know why Yakko keeps getting called a nef. Some people seem to think that his posts are useless! 😉

There is a layer property manager. There are 47 layers, and only 33 displayed. Sure, I can turn the layers on or off, but from his comments, I thought there was a command to use?

Under file, there is no command to view layers 🙁

let me check out that link Sluggo

edit: OK, so it has to do with the layers.

<< Maybe your architect just isnt charging for the "bonus" layers >>

That's a positive thought, but I'm sure I told him I wanted two stories 😉

looked at the file... geez it's been awhile since i used autocad
anyways...

just unfreeze (sun or snowflake icon in layer) the layers called AR-2*
it should show a yellow 2nd floor

Don't you go 'Bonus' > 'Layers' > 'Layer Manager' > and sort it out from there.
There are a couple of selections in there.

Well, I can get to 'layer properties manager', but for the life of me, I can't find 'Bonus' anywhere.

Ah me remembers now, you have to add it in yourself to one of the menus. I'll try and remember how to do it again.

just unfreeze all the layers in the layer properties manager... turn all those snowflake icons into sun icons

This is how you do it. You go 'tools' > 'customize menus...' > and then you need to load 'AC BONUS'. I think this is in all versions of AutoCAD 14, I'm not sure. In 'Menu customization you go 'browse' then go to the AutoCAD R14 folder and then go into the Bonus folder. In there should be the CADTOOLS folder and there should be a file in there called 'ac_bonus.mnc'. Load that and it should appear.

Hopefully that should work.
