Years ago I used a freeware program that would create self extracting installation packages and I recall it being very full featured.

I can't recall the name of it for the life of me, but one thing that sticks out in my memory is that it was created by a very religious person and it had bible verses scrolling at the bottom of the window along with other religious references and imagery.

I'm pretty sure the program was abandonware.

I play Flight Simulator and some of the addons I use have what seems to be a free self-extracting package for free. I'll have to check it out.

I thought of the SFX archive wit 7Z, but I don't think that will install to their proper directories.

Did you try Comodo Program Manager?

It will create installation packages for Windows, don't know about Linux.

No need for questionable third-party apps by using the native Windows IExpress 2.0. Click Start > Run > type "iexpress" (no quotes), click "OK" then follow the directions to create a self-extracting / self-installing package.
