i have never had problems with an Asus board, I read two reviews on it which gave it a good rating:

Plus it has the wifi capability as well. For $134 it seemed like a great deal. Does not mean I have to get it though. I did read recently about a few minor issues with this board and 6600 cards.

I'm an avid proponent of AMD, but I'm not a fanboy, and there is no production AMD board that would come even remotely close to that for a large SQL database

I have a dual Opteron on an nForce Pro chipset. What's wrong with nF?

nVidia is hostile towards F/OSS with regards to their chipsets. I won't buy nForce boards.

Being hostile towards F/OSS doesn't mean you can't use the stuff. Microsoft uses a lot of F/OSS (openly), but they're fairly hostile towards it.

Intel continues to stonewall the efforts of F/OSS groups to support their hardware. Screw'em.

nVidia has released open source drivers (2d only) for their GPUs. That's enough for me, so I don't complain. They refuse to release chipset information, including their network cards, so all support is from reverse engineering. Again, screw'em.

64 bit isnt ready yet unless you go with an open source os. Even with them, they dont have a few programs that work with it. Nvidia has always had terrible drivers for the chipsets for open source os's. That is a known fact. So, i would ignore a nvidia chipset unless you are going with windows.

Put your money into the most major components.... PSU first and foremost/ CPU and Mobo second/ Hard Drives next/ Ram (pc 3500/4000)such as ddr1 dont do 2 because there is no real performance boost with it/ Then cosmetics and rom drives (no matter what these devices still only go at pci speeds)

My biggest advice though is.... get a sweet monitor. It is the most rewarding piece of a computer you will ever use or own. It is the one thing you will be the proudest of for the longest amount of time. Stick with a known company not some off brand LCD. Make sure its at least a 16ms or lower one. And make sure it doesnt have back lighting issues like some of the dells.

Remember, you can always change cosmetics later. but the monitor you wont change for a long time. I have been through like 8 pcs with the same monitor. Because i love my monitor.

Take it for what its worth. But essentially, it is your decision, and you have to live with it.
