Can someone from Europe please explain this to me

Dari

Lifer
I was at the corner of 21st and 6th Avenue yesterday checking out the new Citibikes when I saw a European man and woman walking east. They had on a backpack and were speaking a funny language. The man then spat in the woman's face and she laughed about it. They both laughed, actually. Why did they do that?

He was probably showing her how he felt of the Citibike rental policy:

Q. What if there are no available slots when I return the bike?

A. Riders can dip either their membership keys or their credit or debit cards into the kiosk and select “Request Time Credit” to add an extra 15 minutes to the trip, allowing riders to try their luck at a nearby station.
🙄

Houston just got these stupid bikes. Why would I pay to ride around on a red bike with a basket on the front?

Ours is blue and it's a lot more popular than I thought it would be (considering they've only been available for 3 days or so).

Montreal had them... company had to be bailed out -- something money troubles. Toronto got the bikes with the same brand, but they're a different owner or something. Long story short, they are also losing money and guberment has considered taking it over. Good luck...

have you considered that the two travelers were just screwing around or had some kind of inside joke or were just plain wierdos?

i'd just guess that it was one of those options.

also, the "european" label is about as specific as "human" or "earthling"... there are so many cultures are encompassed by that label that it offers virtually no value as far as narrowing things down.

in one large "european" city that I've lived in bikes like that are present, awesome, and business is booming. For a subscription of about $15 per year you have unlimited access to the bikes.

who rides them??
hot chicks, business men &women, young professionals, friday night partiers, etc... the bikes are good.

nobody cares what the bikes look like.

+1

I've never seen people spitting on each others' faces (though I would be surprised that any country is aware of that custom), but what would I know what they get up to in say Turkey?

It's a way of introducing yourself.. can't believe you didn't know this. If you don't spit in a Europeans face they consider it very rude

yep: www.bixi.com

they are still around and are all over the city. used them a couple of times, they were alright. I see the yearly subscription is up to $82.50 now, damn.

It's a very popular way of saying hallo to your friends. It originated in Germany but it's spreading into other european countries.

what's spitting got to do with bikes?
Anyway those bike networks are getting pretty popular everywhere.

Obviously this is a situation that must be related to where they come from and couldn't possibly have happened between two english speaking naturalized citizens.

Let's see... $80/year to use their bikes unlimited times or $112/month to get an unlimited Metrocard...Consider me a converter. This thing is such a good deal.
