Richard M. Nixon was a lying, megalomanical asshole who, like your current Traitor In Chief, shredded the Constitutional rights of American citizens by sending his "plumbers" to spy on those who opposed him. The most well know episode was when they broke into the office of Daniel Ellsberg's psychiatrist.

Nixon did not initiate the Watergate break in, but he took the lead in the cover up that followed. He's was caught on his own Whitehouse tape system planning ways to funne hush money to the actual burglars as they were sitting in jail and much, much more. More on Watergate.

Now that you know, if you really think any political party should be bugged by the opposite party in power, you're a few decades too late. You're a fucking dipshit asshole who would have made a great nazi. :|

He was a corrupt piece of you know what, and disgraced the office and the Constitution. Actually, what's kind of sad is that his policies weren't nearly as bad as his morals. But in the end, he left a black mark on the U.S.

When Nixon when down there was still the force of shame at play in politics. He was totally humiliated and people ran from him like stink of shit. Today an asshole like Bush can lie in the face of America all day and Republicans don't care at all. They support each other in infamy and call it good. It is doubtless why he looks OK to you today.

In many ways, Moonbeam has nailed it better than anyone else who mentions things like widening the war into Cambodia.

But in the America of 1972, we had a Senate who cared about integrity, we had a supreme court that cared about integrity, and an American people who also cared.

To this day, we do not know if Nixon authorized the watergate burglar crime, but the point being, when Nixon's cronies got caught in acts Nixon had been doing all through his political career, Nixon tried a cover up. And that turned out to be a crime called obstruction of justice, and more importantly turned out to be a documented, thanks to a taping system, a case where Richard M. Nixon told a giant lie to the American people.

Sadly, we the American people no longer care, and now we have been raped by GWB&co.
We may no longer care, but the larger world that has its entire economic system alos raped do care, and if we do not straighten up our act, the larger world will say the hell with us.

GWB&Cheney for the Hague ASAP.

I guess I'll be the big man and finally say the answer you're looking for. It's because he was a Republican. Most folks really didn't know this at the time. They were all confused with his greasy hair and five-o-clock shadow. They thought they were voting for the local used car saleseman that they like the best. But after they found out that he was actually the president, and not just any president but a Republican. When it was obvious that Nixon was going to win the Vietnam War, the Democrats knew that it had to stop. So they paid off two reporters at this Washington rag of a newspaper to phony up stories of gross misconduct, violation of Constitutional rights, abuse of office, you know, stupid little shit like that. And BAM! Suddenly the Democrats have demonized another upstanding Republican.

Your complete ignorance of history is showing... AGAIN... or, since you're so far out of touch with reality, I should say, STILL!

Either post some facts and links to disprove what I said, or STFU.

Now that's a load of Bullshit. Look up Hadleman, Erlichman, Dean, Liddy, Agnew and all the other lowlifes that were part of his administration or afiliates. There was nothing upstanding about the man or his Administration.

Nixon won reelection 60% to 37% so he could not have been that bad of a President.

Watergate however over shadows everything else Nixon was able to do.

His corruption and lust for power undid anything positive he accomplished as President.

As I understand it Nixon was a McCarthy guy, making political hay climbing over the downtrodden in the 1950's. He also prolonged a miserable epoch in US history, the Vietnam War. On top of that, IIRC, he's the only guy to resign the presidency (his likely successful impeachment was imminently pending). I don't remember liking him for anything whatsoever.
