I am building my first sytem in many years, and encountered this question. My Soyo p4 motherboard manual has the following note."This motherboard supports non boxed type cpu's.The heavier cooling fans require a cpu support stand". I bought a box type cpu,but the motherboard already has a plastic stand for the cooling fan.
I am confused as to what this means. Can anyone shed some light?......Thanks........🙂

Sound like they're just explaining that with heavier CPU's to use a stand. I wouldn't worry about it if you already have one on your mobo.

Thanks for the reply....Evidentally,they refer to the big plastic stand for the fan as a "cpu stand"?Maybe some smaller fans clip to the ziff socket? At any rate,it is confusing when a manual tells you to get something that is already installed......lol.............thanks..🙂
