So here's the story,
My wife and I are sitting in Applebee's and hear a cell phone go off. The cell phone keeps playing random ring tones very loudly for a couple of minutes, so we try to make eye contact with the people, which turns out to be a group of three, about 20 yr old people. I'm 25, so not much of an age difference. Anyway, after at least ten minutes of this, I go over and ask very politely if they can turn the phone off because it's been ringing for ten minutes and it's very annoying. The girl says it wasn't ringing, she was just playing with it. Ok, so fine, I go and sit back down and the ringing stops...finally.

On their way out, one of the girls stops by our table and says to me that it was very rude of me to tell them to turn off the cell phone because their brother died recently and they were waiting for a call. I'm baffled and just say that well, it was very rude of you to keep the phone ringing for ten minutes. She says 'my brother just died' and I explain that it has nothing to do with the situation and she starts walking out. At the door she says "you're just jealous because you don't have a cell phone."

I'm trying to figure out how they can possibly rationalize such rude and ignorant behavior and I can't come up with an explanation, except that, well they're just all retarded. Anybody got any ideas? Who agrees that they're just retarded?

They are just retarded, I would imagine they were trying to make you feel like an ass by making up a story about her brother dying.

Coversation at other table:

Girl 1: That guy just "punked" you
Cell Phone Girl: No he didn't
Girl 2: Yes he did, he told you off like your dad or something
Cell Phone Girl: Watch when were leaving I'll make him feel bad

Now you know, the rest of the story.

haha.. that's pretty pathetic. i'd expect something like that out of a 14-16 year old who just got their phone but a 20 year old? you'd think the 'coolness' factor of having a cell phone dies by this age.

I vote for just retarded... ettiquette and common courtesy seems to be lost on lots of people these days. Even after 9-11, people are still retarded.

And there lies the SAME EXACT sh!t I'm talking about with a LOT of SUV drivers. Go look at the threads about SUVs - there are quite a few comments implying jealousy of SUV haters. People just want something to make them look cool/important/of higher status/etc.

I attribute most bad behavior (rudeness, littering, lack of respect, etc.) to bad parenting.

You must fight these rude little punks with wit. You should have said "If your brother just died shouldn't you be digging a hole?"

Don't hate the phones hate the user. Whenever I am in a restaurant I turn my ringer off and put it on vibrate. Of course it has to be real important for me to interupt my meal to answer it.

Hadn't thought about them making up the story but that could very well be true. I figured I was right. Thanks.

How do you figure? If they are going to be rude I can say whatever i want, regardless of how insensitive it is. The only way to shut little a$$holes up these days is to outclass them with comebacks. When they realize you are not a pushover they run with their pu$$y a$$ed little tails between their legs.

heh.... try this to be rude:

I was walking on the street and there are these two people in front of me. One is a blind big-boned african-american women, and another one is either her husband or son (also black).. they took the whole sidewalk, so i walked behind them.

When i got a chance to walk pass them, I did and I said "excuse me"

the black dude just started swearing at me and like "why the f*ck can't you walk in the street? f*ck you and your race"

i'm just glad that i walked away without saying anything.

Dude you know she was lying about her brother (99% chance). You should have said something like "Too bad I'm not as lucky as him. He doesn't have to put up with you"

That 1% chance that he really was dead would be a pretty sh!tty deal though.

And to this you should have replied "You are just jealous because in a race you would lose."

So do ALL my teachers.

Everyday they'd say: put's your phone away, put's your calculator away and puts your walkman away. Sometimes five or six times during a period.

bah, why? Life is too short to be afraid of every damn person on the street to the point you don't say a word no matter what.

When some dumbass on the bus home one day decided to test out all of his ringer tones at max volume, I said something to the effect of "Hey cell phone guy, test your damn ringer out at home or at least at a bit lower." When another university student in the computer lab row in front of me started complaining loudly about rap music in general, I told him equally as loudly to shut the hell up since he obviously didn't know what the hell he was talking about.

I guess it's a bit of a risk but half the time it probably does you more harm to not let that aggravation out on the perpetrator. Live a little!
