Can someone explain the Lego **Insert popular movie series here** gaming craze?

NFS4

No Lifer
Don't get me wrong, I love Legos and was addicted to the Lego Technic series growing up as a kid, but WTF is up with Lego-gaming everything under the sun?

Lego Batman, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Star Wars, Lego Harry Potter...

I just don't get it. Is taking something popular and adding "Lego" to really make for a good game?

I think a lot of parents like it for their kids because there's not any gore to speak of. When Batman, Robin, Indy, et al get killed or injured, their lego pieces just pop apart rather than bleeding profusely. There are a lot of puzzles and things as well, they're kinda fun.

Source: I have a kid that plays them and loves it.

Hmmm, never thought of that. Makes sense.

They're not terrible games actually. They're fun to goof off with and very child friendly. If I was picking a video game for my child they would get my approval.

yes, this.

this is the answer.

Lego has been licensing things like Star Wars, Batman, and Harry Potter for their building sets before the games. Converting those to games seemed like a good idea.

I have the Lego Batman that came for free with the 360 and its pretty lame. Just run through and mash buttons, awfully boring. I like the idea, just wish the games were more interesting. It seems they are directed towards kids and that is why the games are so simple.

this. it lets you take otherwise potentially violent things and turn them kid-friendly.

Ive played them all extensively (mostly with my kids, but solo too I will admit).
Most of them are a LOADS of fun. Simply, inventive and funny gameplay.

Indy and Batman were "meh", but Star Wars (Original Trilogy) and Harry Potter were a TOTAL blast. In fact I just did a solid marathon with my kid last night. All of them though are incredibly creative (lacking in a lot of games nowadays) I'll get everyone that comes out without question

In closing, wrong forum.
