Can someone explain the "Amerika" thing to me?

I sometimes see people spelling America with a 'k', I'm just curious what the origin/meaning behind this is. It seems to happen mostly when Americans are lamenting or being critical of the state or future of the country. For example, right-wing Americans will spell it 'Amerika" when lamenting where they believe the country is heading under Obama.

Is there any meaning to this?

Yes, they did the same thing when "Klinton" was in office, because it's a well-known fact that Democrats are commie socialist pinkos. They just want you to know how clever they are, and that they're onto the liberal plot to destroy America.

History and politics isn't my strong suit so I must be missing something, but what does the letter 'k' have to do with communism/socialism?

Is it the KKK thing? Doesn't seem to make sense, I mostly see it used with right-wingers criticizing the left, the KKK was a right-wing organization.

From my younger years I remember it starting as AmeriKKKA, and was used by liberals expressing the fascist state of the right, and the KKK, and just the racist "System, you know "The Man"?, and if I remember correctly the expression was spawned from an old MDC song, or album cover, could be wrong on that, would haev to go through my old records.

Yeah, I doubt it's that. The "Russification" explanation makes the most sense to me, since a lot of them think that Obama is bringing about a socialist regime.

It's a backwards/mirrored k, IIRC.

Democrats started the KKK.

True, and republicans were liberal, almost radical ideologues. Too bad political stances changed since the 1800s.

The alphabet letter K is basically the same letter used in the Cyrillic/Russian alphabet, which is used for the hard "c" sound in most words with similar pronunciation/spelling.

while a different alphabet, the Russian spelling for America looks like "Amerika": ???????
well, looks different, unless you know some of the pronunciation of Russian. ;)

changing english words that have c's in them and replacing them with k's, is an American way of representing oppression/out of line government/communism.

edit:
German also has some use of k instead of c I think, and notably, in English, the letter k represents a "harder" sound, and to most, the German language has a "harder" sound in general, so changing the spelling to look "harder" represents making it look German.

It's hard to say exactly what everyone means when they do it themselves, but basically it represents the same thing as I said with the Russian concept. A knock against overly strong government.

Outside of the lunatic fringe I've never seen this. I've seen plenty of Amurica and even Amurika though, and that's usually to denote a redneck connotation (God I sound intelligent :p).
