Can someone explain PING nad TelNet to me???

The information there is not very accurate and only reflect what one guy is using them for. Esp. the telnet part is basically bs.

Ping sends a low-level (ICMP) packet to the remote computer and times how long it takes for the other computer to reply. That's all it does.

Telnet usually allows one to acquire a shell on the other computer, but can also be used for stuff like MUDs.
