can someone clarify all my cs questions for me?

i once played cs 1.5 2 years ago after getting bored i quit but now im interested again but now there seems to be so many different versions. just off my head i can think of cs condition zero, cs source, cs 1.6, cs regular. i have a couple of questions which im hoping some cs addicts can help me answer.

1) Which version is the latest and the one i would want to play?
2) I have the original counter strike cd along with a legit key, what is the highest that will take me? 1.6 or >?
3) What is the diff. between source and cs cz?

Remember that CS was originally a mod for Half-life. CS: Source is the the new Counter-Strike for Half-Life 2.

CS: CZ is a single player version of CS. It was sold as a stand alone game.

CS 1.6 is just a version of the original CS, so if you install your game, you can update to 1.6.

Yea, 1.6 is the "regular" cs at the moment.
CZ is the older (non-source) engine so the graphics are not all that great, nor are game physics up tp source standards.

Source is the HL2 engine, allows for much better graphics and game physics.
Source is available to all HL2 owners and CS Source is the latest, greatest CS at the moment but too new to be fully supported by many maps or addons such as statsme or admin_mod.
 
If you played 1.5, 1.6 won't seem much different AFAIK. But as someone who's played them all (ok not 1.6 🙂), CS:Source is kickass! I didn't think when I dropped the $60 on HL2 silver that I would be playing CS:S but it rocks. I thought Condition Zero had online play too? Or was it just with bots?

And wow, you played 1.5 2 years ago?? What time frame did that put beta 1 or so in? (I don't even want to know how many years I've wasted on the game)

edit: In fact I'm going to play it right now!
 
I played CZ because it came with my HL2 steam purchase. It's not a bad game. The bots are pretty smart. They work together very well and actually complete level objectives (unlike most human players out there). The graphics seemed to be updated a bit from regular CS, although I haven't played the original CS in a few years now so I'm not too sure.
