I have spectrum internet and get 400mb/s down.

Using speedtest.net I can confirm this speed using my phone (Pixel 3) connected to my 5Ghz band.

On my PC the highest speed I can get (same 5Ghz band) is 184mb/s.

This is my adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EOQ61KI/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_LSxyEb26ZNQ0B

Trendnet AC1900 plugged into my mobos USB 3.0 port Win7 64. When I check network properties it says 1.1GBs connection speed.

I ask you Atotters, where is my bottleneck ?

I'm going to guess your bottleneck is the distance between your router & your pc using the Trendnet AC1900. What happens when you plug the pc directly into the router, and run a speedtest? I bet you get your 400mbps down.

The distance from my router is less than fifteen feet, albeit a floor below. If distance were the bottleneck why does my pixel 3 record 400+ down at the same distance and floor.

Edit: and don't forget Windows is reporting a 1.1Gb/s connection under network properties.

Your pixel 3 clearly has a better radio than your Trendnet AC1900. You can try playing with the antennas, who knows you might get lucky. If not run the test aigomorla sugested. Move your pc into the same room as the router first though.

The spec mentions beamforming, but no MIMO.

Pixel 3 got 2x2 MIMO.

Someone please tell me the difference between beamforming and MIMO.

Then run ethernet cable already... seems silly to use up wifi bandwidth when faster ethernet is so easy and inexpensive to implement, unless you don't own the home so (arguably, it's hard to assign damage to a hole that they never even find) can't put that little hole in the floor or wall.

Which way is your antenna pointed? Picture a disc around each of the stick antenna, that is the radiation pattern.

My router is Asus AC 2900

Might be a dumb question but should I point all four antennas towards the router ?

Also can anybody else comment on the MIMO thing ?

Can't test anything at the house I'm out of the country for a few days.
try making two of the router antenna 40 degrees from vertical and do the same with your nic. You want the antenna to be on the same plane basically.

bottom diagram is the radiation pattern.

Would love to pick up a new WiFi 6 router and wifi 6 adapter but I can't find a single USB 3.0 adapter they all seem to be PCI cards and I've got no more slots open on my mobo
