Can some one explain the pros and cons of having a i6 and a v6

boxer=flat=H (horizontal)

...unless you want to get pissy about some odd ball engine that was described as an "H"

I drive a straight six, so let me address the original question. One benefit is inherently better balance, although Toyota used a fully balanced crank in the Supra anyway. The other is more torque, all else equal. But none of that really means much to me. What I do like about it is that I can get at all six spark plugs easily. There's one intake side, one exhaust side, really easy to reach. I'd say easier to work on in general, but that also has to do with the fact that they're almost always in RWD setups which means lots of room on the sides.

If you ever have the chance, put a stack of pennies on the top of the valve covers on an I6. They probably won't shake, let alone fall over.

I had one of these in an old Ford truck years ago. It had a top-loader 4 speed with a "granny low" first and (numerically) high rear-end gears. The torque in that thing was amazing. That was truly a truck that could pull stumps.


Edit: Oh yea, my dad had an AMC Javelin with a 258 straight-6 during that same time period. That was a tank of an engine, he hit a dip in the road (we lived in Alaska at the time and the roads weren't the best) and cut a radiator hose. Drove it for another week before he realized there was no coolant.

And you would be wrong. You can refer, correctly, to any boxer engine as an "H#" where "#" is the number of cylinders.

Boxer = Horizontally-opposed = "H" as an abbreviation.

Again, my point (which is correct) is that the H engine type is not what a boxer is, but the Subaru and Saab H engines are boxers. I do not know anyone commonly refering to the boxer as an 'H' engine here in S. Florida and we have a ton of Subie's around here, they will say boxer and 2.xL H4 . The H4 came in a few displacements. It's not a pedantic argument though; you can't say that because a VW has a boxer in it, it's an 'H4' or even 'H"...again end of story. Saying your WRX has an H4 in it would be dead-on correct.

To LTC....inline V8 makes sense; it's a true statement. It's just a little redundant hence not used really and creates confusion with an inline 8.

Apply that logic to the H argument and maybe you can see the issue?
