can some on explain to me CAV and CLV

i know what they stand for

Constant Angular and Cosntant Linear Velocities but i dont know what each does or how it works

for CAV i assume the Rotational velocity of the disc stays the same so that the laser can read/write faster on the outer edge

for CLV i assume that the disc slows down the further the laser goes to the outside so that the actual tracks or pits in the CD move past the laser at the same speed no matter where the laser is on the disc

correct?
