Can scar tissue ever feel like a lump under skin?

October 25, 2010 Update:
So I had an ultrasound last Wednesday. Got a call from the Dr's office today, they said that the results came back normal except for a lump on the lymphnode. She said the doctor wanted to wait 6 months and then visit the doctor again, and possibly have another ultrasound. Wtf does that mean?? Are they saying it's cancer and they want to see if it shrinks or what? I'm so confused/terrified. Why the fuck would you wait 6 months? I'm thinking I might just get really drunk and then cut it out myself, it's JUST below the skin. Why the hell do they want to wait 6 months?

October 7, 2010 Update: OK, doctor's appointment is tomorrow. I think I'm having a mild panic attack right now; I don't know if I've ever shaken this badly before and I think I'm going to throw up (from nerves, not being sick). All I can think about is having cancer & dying. What if I waited too long and it's spread now? Or they make me wait for a biopsy. I just want them to carve this fucking thing out. Fuck if they give me some lidocaine ointment I'll cut it out myself, it's close enough to the skin surface.

I enjoy life, I'd rather not die any time soon. What if they want to saw off my balls or tear my ass out. My friend's dad had cancer and they tore his asshole off and sewed it shut. I just want to have a normal life. Fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

I had a hernia when I was 4 years old on the left side. I have a small scar sitting on the upper groin area right around the level where the waistband of my boxers is. The other day I noticed a small lump there, about the size of a very small grape. It's not tender or anything, but it worries me. It's in the area of where a lymph node in my upper groin may be. There is no corresponding lump on the other side, nor are any of my other lymph nodes swollen, at least none that I can feel. I'm somewhat worried, not too much at this point. I'm going to give it a couple weeks to see if it goes away. But I'm wondering, other than a lymph node, could it just be scar tissue that I never noticed? I don't really poke around down there often, so it's not that unusual that I wouldn't notice something like that for a couple decades.

if you didn't notice a lump on your skin the size of a small grape for a "couple decades" I think you might have some issues.

unfortunately no. I have bashed my legs up deadlifting recently, apparently injury to legs/feet on one side can cause a unilateral inflammation of lymph nodes in the groin. I'm going to give it a week or two, see what happens. For all I know it's been there for years.

but yes it can. i have a really nasty scar on my stomach from when i had my apendix out. damn thing is about 4 inches long part of it is hard and lumpy.

but since you mention you have never noticed it before i would go get it checked.
 
Is the lump hard or soft? If it's hard and not tender I would see a doc ASAP.. Not ER style, but make an appt monday morning.

Soft = lymph nodes
Hard & tender = cyst, infection, etc that *could* go away
Hard & not tender = cancer


But as everyone else is saying... we're all just guessing.
 
While it was cut open, some little critter with a very lengthy lifespan crawled in there. Most likely, it's in the cocoon stage & is about to emerge through your skin.

Hmmm... that was more amusing when I thought it, before I typed it.

Yah it doesn't hurt really, but it's not exactly rock hard either, kinda spongy almost
