Can SATA & IDE run on the same machine?

I already have two IDE drives. If I get a SATA drive, will it become just another drive? Yes, my motherboard has SATA ports. Somewhere I heard that the SATA drive "must" become the primary drive...is this true? Many thanks.

Depends on the motherboard, I suppose, but I have a system at home with a 120 Gig IDE as Primary(boot partition), and a SATA 250 Gig as a backup/data drive.

I don't think theres any m/b that disallows ide+sata together.
The sata doesn't need to be the primary drive.
