Can Regular Lamp Light Tan You?

I swear, there are some times I spend absolutely no time outdoors, but I still have a shirt tan...

So the question... can indoor lamp tan you? No, I don't believe in CRT tans.

All light bulb filaments emit a small amount of UV radiation. The glass used in most lighbulbs blocks it. Halogen lights burn alot hotter so the bulbs can't be made of glass (they usually use something like quartz). Quartz doesn't block UV so that's why you see UV warnings on halogen lights. And it's why most halogen light fixtures come with some sort of glass lens or shield.

So you might be able to get a tan from an unshielded halogen light but even then the amount of UV emitted is pretty low and might not even be a good wavelength for tanning.
