Can playing games on a non-native resolution for a LCD damage it?

May be a silly question but I don't know much about LCDs 🙂 Games look just fine when I play in a lower resolution on my Dell 20inch but I just want to make sure that I don't have to worry about this.
 
Isn't that the Native Resolution?

Im at the point where I can't play anything below native(1280x1024) b\c it looks far from great.

I believe his Dell has native 1600x1200 res,however even on my Samsung 191T(native is 1280x1024) , games @1024x768 look ok .
 
Samsung has some of the best scaling algorithms in the business, and they got better on their newer screens, the 172X and 710T. Scaled resolutions look pretty much indistinguishable in games from native.
 
I have a Samsung 172X (native 1280) and am quite pleased with the scaling in 1024. You clearly lose some sharpness, but it probably still looks better at the scaled 1024 than it did on my old 19 in. CRT at the res.
 
Omg, this LiquidVideo 17" LCD I tried last night, has probably the worst interpolation ever. Anything less than native res, and everything turned into a pixelated mess.

Which, by the way, can any LCD's actually produce a "black" black? Because I was trying to play COD on that piece of crap, and on some levels that were dark, I couldn't see a thing. Everything was washed out in a milky white-black color. I turned the brightness to 0, turned the contrast up... nothing helped.
 
Ideally, you should have the options of either VPU or FPD scaling as well as centered output such as 1280 at the equivalent size of a 16" (or 17" CRT) on a 20" FPD. Native resolution is a misnomer anyway and a more appropriate term is maximum addressable pixels.
