You know, like the old CRTs if kept on and on the same old prompt it would burn in. Do plasmas do the same?

Yes, they absolutely do. This being said, common sense can keep them from being burnt in too much.

Remember to calibrate the panel when you get it. This is the single most important thing. Most of the time, they come from the factory with brightness and contrast cranked up too high.

Also, burn in relates to overall panel life, so today's panels are far FAR more burn in resistant than those made even a year ago.

The earlier plasmas had a 10-20k lifespan. Those burnt in very very easily. Today, they have a lifespan of upwards of 60k hours. Next gen will be even longer and harder to burn in.

Yep - when I worked at Gateway their demo models had the gateway logo burned into them from running our demo all the time. EVERY plama screen's manual says not to leave it on for extended periods of time, or on channels with stationary images because they will burn in.

Yeah, we got 2 screens here at work and one of them has some error messages on it. Stupid thing is, they took the keyboard and mouse away so we have no way to clear the messages. Oh well.

good to have some people like Apex around to spread the word...a plasma certainly does have that possibility, but you're looking at a pretty extended period of time in order for something to burn in. A lot of the concern about plasmas were stories told by salesmen at big chain retailers in order to push a warranty...and like Apex said, today's plasmas have far better technology behind them, so the average lifespan is so long that it isn't worth worrying about in years...if you're buying a plasma, get a good one. We've never had a problem with a Pioneer Elite (one of the best screens on the market), whereas we get calls pretty often about a customer who's bought a plasma from some other place and something's wrong.

ugh, thoughts aren't forming very well...time for sleep.
