Can P4 2.2a oc to 133 FSB just as easy as 1.6a

I am looking forward to receive my new P4S533 motherboard from Asus and expect to plug in an Intel 2.2a - I am just waiting for Intel to lower the prices at the end of this month 😉

Is it as easy to oc a 2.2a CPU to 133 FSB as it is with the 1.6a and 1.8a ......... that would give me 2926 Mhz without special cooling and thus without extra noise.

The memory I am considering is Samsung DDR 333, I cannot find any Samsung 400 memory here in Denmark, yet 🙁

Some resellers here have DDR 400 memory from a company called Performance Memory .......... anyone know them ???

I would say it will be very unlikely with air cooling. The reason 1.6a and 1.8a are overclock so high because Intel need to meet the demand for lower speed and mark down their 2.2a, maybe even the 2.4a to lower speed. I think the 1.6a that overclock to 2.6-2.8 are 2.4a mark downs.

I would say a big no as well, especially when comparing it to a 1.6a.....

Look at it this way....many with 1.8a's never got to 133fsb stabily!!! So 2.2a's give less headroom as mentioned above as well as the multiplier increase means the 133 boost means an overall larger jump in total clock mhz....We have seen 3.0ghz with vapochill systems, but I can't recall a 2.2 air cooled that high....EXTREMELY UNLIKELY...

Even a 2.0 ghz would be a crap shoot....if 133fsb is you goal to run the ddr 400 then get a 1.6a....

However the p4s533 I believe offers a 1:2 ratio to run 400mhz ddr at even stock 100fsb speeds...I could be wrong but I believe many p4s333 owners who flashed their bios to p4s533 bios have these options....

I just got in a 2.2 northwood and the afore mentioned Asus P4S533. I can barely get 114/38 @ default voltage. I have tried all different memory settings w/ OCZ PC3000 and Crucial PC2100 no effect. I think the 2.2 is suck. Has anyone successfully OCed this combo? If so with what settings and hardware?

Cheers,

Madhatter

Go for the new stepping (nicknamed P4-2.2"B" on another website I recently visited) on that 2.2GHz, which people are reporting mid-3GHz range overclocks. The 2.4GHz @400fsb and all 533fsb P4's use the new stepping. The website I saw the report on was the first mention I saw of the new stepping in anything below the 2.4GHz.

what website is that madrat?

Sounds just like what I am looking for MadRat 🙂

Is there a number on the actual processor to tell the diff ?

- I don't trust my supplier to know the diff.

The new 131mm^2 P4 is used on all P4's >2.4GHz although the website listed a 2.2GHz version. I cleared out 300MB of old internet files three days back and cannot find the link in whats here now. 🙁

any idea on what the stepping is or what the package date is?

im getting anxious to upgrade... im on a PIII 800 right now

No I do not. I'm anxious to find out what people are able to push this core, too. The new stepping has been getting very little press from overclockers because of its use only in the upper end of P4's.

yeah, easy 😀
