The only plextor ID string I could find is "Plextor CD-R PX-W1210A", I don't know if this is complete and correct. Maybe someone else could verify this?????????

I would like to modify this ID to read as a plextor.

This site has a screen shot, just click on the picture of the ID settings.

Thank's

<edit> it would be nice to have a util to modify it back to Iomega also, if required.

Why would you want to change it though? It would not affect performance and the drive would still physically say IOMEGA on it.

For future compatabilty <sp>, plextor is supported by everything.

Some time back someone wrote a util to change ID strings on plextor clones, so I think this could be done.

that, and you can use plextor software and plextor firmware updates when you flash it to a Plextor :)

Well changing the ID string does not neccesarily change its 'compatibilty'

Anyway half the Iomega CDRs are made by Plextor. So those badge engineered Plextor Iomega drives should be compatible with anything that its Plextor equilivent is compatible with - Plexter firmware updates even work with them (even though the Iomega ID stays the same).

But becareful some of those badge engineered Iomega CDRs are also made by Sanyo too - you'd probably fuk one of those if you tried to load Plextor firmware in one of those.

Check this page & you'll see what I mean, you do not need to change the Iomega ID to use Plextor software and Plextor firmware updates.
