A lot of drugs on the market have 'negative' side effects that make them popular for illegal use. If the company really wanted to sell it's medicine based on what it isn't intended to do, why wouldn't it advertise all of those as well?

Pick up the latest issue of People and actually read how drugs are tested and the effects determined.
