I see all these Viagra and copy cat drug commercials/ads that always mention that if you have an erection for more than 4 hours to seek medical attention immediately.

What exactly is the danger of having an erection for that long? Does something bad happen to it after four hours?

There's a case study somewhere of a guy who had an erection for one week straight - he was too embarassed to go see a doctor, so he did all kinds of gruesome things to try and get it to go down, like injecting it with anaesthetics. When he finally did go find a doctor, the damage was beyond repair - he was left with a penis less than one inch long.

I've never noticed any bad effects myself (though, to be fair, pharmaceutical assistance has never been involved), but just to be safe you should probably slow down enough at that point to drink some water or something so you stay fully hydrated.

Oh, and if you've got a CD playing in the background, three or four hours seems to be about the time it's been repeated so many times that it starts being less "background" and more "annoying."

Being a female, I doubt she's even had a last time she had a 'hard on'. Her response seemed to be a simple rebuttal to the fact that the statement (call a doctor after 4 hours), is in fact, not a sales pitch. Drug companies are bound to mention everything that can happen after ingesting their drugs, and they've mentioned to call a doctor after a four-hour erection. They're not trying to sell people on the ideas of four-hour erections, it's a simple disclaimer. She is wondering about the medical logic and reasoning behind the question. Hence the :roll:.
