Can Novell Server & Windows 3.11 co-exist on the same HD?

I have a lab at home that I use for educational purposes.

I am going to put Novell 5.1 on one of my older machines.

This calls for a 50 meg DOS partition to be set up first.

So I find myself wondering if maybe I can install Win3.11 on there too, as a nostalgia thing.

However, I don't know if the two can co-exist and I figure it can't hurt to ask first.

Also, if they can, should I put DOS and 3.11 on the same partition or should I put them on two different partitions?

Either way, what size would be best for the partion(s)? (It's going on a 5.1gig HD)

You start Novell from a DOS partition, if it's large enough, yeah sure, you can toss WIndows on there as well. You CANNOT run both at the same time ... the box will either be a Windows box, or it'll be a Novell server. I don't think Novell has made a non-ded server since ~2.15, maybe 2.2.

So you could put other Windows on that partition if ya want (not limited to 3.1), but you'll have to keep it regular FAT (I'm pretty sure Novell 3.x can't read a FAT32.

Good Luck

You can have your Netware startup files on a DOS partition along with Windows. Like was said, it needs to be FAT16 and when you start Netware you need to be booted with a configuration that isn't loading any memory drivers (himem.sys/emm386). Netware will need its own partition on the drive for your Netware volume(s).
