Can nero write cd-rws then if i want to delete one file and replace it with a newer version ?

If you use multisession, then you can do this with both CDRs and CDRWs.

However, every time you make a change, you lose 35 MB, and you do not recover the space which the old file used.

If you have used a CDRW disc with multisession, then you MUST use the full erase option, before using it as a fresh disc - if you only use quick erase, then very strange things can happen.

If you want to use a CDRW disc as a large random access removable disc, then you need InCD.

I don't use either, but have tried both briefly.

My experience with Direct CD has been nothing but awful - but this was quite a while ago. The first version I tried, completely destroyed my Windows installation (I tried it twice). I tried a later version which seemed to work, but every now and again, it would crash while saving/copying a file, and that would be the end of the data on the CD.

InCD has worked flawlessly as far as I have used it, but it seems rather slow, and I don't use CDRWs very much, so perfer the guaranteed compatability and reliability of conventional burning.

Mark R ok well see i would use cd-rs too but i have to update sometimes this one to two files to keep my backup up to date. And updating 1 or 2 files would mean to have to use a whole another cd-r every time 🙁 I don't know how else there is a way. Because once you write on a cd-r you cant delete those two old files and update them to two new ones. Like lets say aim list, icq list, favs, and all kind of stuff i got to update all the time. Everyday if i want to make sure i dont lose it.
Is there any way you recommend that would be better than using cd-rws as large floppies with directcd or Incd?

Mark R--good info.

Personally, I have never tried InCD or DirectCD...just never gotten around to it.

imtim83--Whenever I use cd-rws, I just write them as Disk at Once. You could do this, and then just rotate several cd-rws in and out as backups. Then, you can do a quick erase whenever you want, which I think only takes 2 or 3 minutes.

Or, you could just do a multisession on each cd-rw, and full erase them when they get full.

I'm with randy. I just backup to a cd. Then i keep a backup of that which gets updated periodically.

Come on, its gonna take a lot of updated aim lists to fill a cd and cd blanks are now about $.20. I've learned my lesson of trying to save a few cents in media then getting bogged down in days of reloading Windows. Its not worth it. Just keep updating the cd then throw it out when its full.
