can ne1 recommend a good B&W printer?

I just want it to print documents in black and white that look professional. Most of the printers on the market now are all in 1 machines that fax copy scan and print in color. I don't need all of that. Just a good printer for letters and worksheets. Doesn't have to work w/Macs. I got a HP PSC 2410 now. IMHO it is a POS and the carts are expensive. Any suggestions for a replacement please?

The Samsung ML-2010 is a decent little machine, and can be found for as little as 50-60 dollars with fair frequency.

Fairly small, decent laser quality and speed, USB, works with Windows, Mac, Linux. There might be better options at its MSRP of ~ $100; but for $50 it's a steal.

(I have purchased and set up two for my family, no trouble so far.)

The Samsung is a good choice. if you can spend a little more, the HP 10xx laserJet printer is excellent. The print quality is superb and the toner is a fair price and lasts quite awhile. Speed is good. I've had one for about a year and a half (I have the laserJet 1012), and it has caused me no problems at all. I've printed probably around 1.3k sheets and the toner is still going strong (altough I tend to use the "econo mode" liberally, so that may help).

I agree. I have the older Samsung ML-1710, and it's great. Toner seems pricey compared to cartridges, but you have to consider how many pages you're getting.

It might matter as to what kind of paper you're using though... I used my printer to print off some invitations on fancier cardstock from a craft store, and some of the toner would rub off if you rubbed too hard against it.

A common occurrence when paper is too thick on a laser - the fuser roller can't transfer the heat needed to fuse the toner to the paper.

On my HP Laserjet 4000, 60 lb. paper is as thick as I would use because of that. And then, I use the front door, open the back door, and single sheet feed straight through.

I'd rec. a used HP laserjet 4000+ series printer, they're fairly cheap on ebay have excellent support and have tank like relability.

I don't know that to suggest....

I know what to avoid. I've had so many issues with Epson printers
I'd stay away from them, especially the ones that feed paper from the top.

It may be that I've bought the middle quality ones instead of the top quality, but I'd say to avoid them

I know its much later and the OP probably already has something, but I'd like to recommend an entry-level laser from HP.

I have had many over the years and they all worked great. Never once did I toss it because of defects or wearing out.
They always had some unfortunate accident or careless abuse.

Currently have an HP LJ 1020. Quiet and efficient, can print out tons of high-quality Dungeons and Dragons sheets in short order.

Thank you and no I have not bought anything yet. It is not that urgent right now for me, but I could use one eventually.

How much is an entry level HP laser printer?

I have the Brother HL-2070N, and love it.

In fact, I own three! 😛

QFT! I quite the like the one my family has; it's a great little network printer. It's fast, has pretty good print quality, and it's a breeze to set up. It is a little pricey, though; I believe ours was $150 CAD on sale at Staples.

I am pretty happy with my Samsung 2010, does things well and looks good. I cry when I have to buy cartridges (MORE EXPENSIVE THEN THE BLOODY PRINTER DAMN THEM!) but between those times i'm happy.
