True, but if you don't start looking you'll never even have a chance of finding something better.
Sure, but saying that someone should "quit their crying" and go look for another job isn't fair either. I don't like my job, and I am looking, but as of yet haven't found anything. Does that make my dislike for my job any less valid?

I certainly wasn't trying to say their (or your) dislike is less valid. My point is it's better to do something about it than sit around doing nothing but crying about it.

If she doesn't like it she can quit...so evidently they can do it if she's willing to go along with it.

Isn't it a requirement that you get 11 hours of rest in between scheduled shifts?

The labor laws vary from state to state... I think in Michigan it is 6 or 8 hours.. not really sure.

I am dependant on overtime to make a living.. so there is no way I would or could do that kind of hours
on a salary.

What I really wanted to say is that I work for the water department... if I am working overtime then that usaually means that someone is out of water or some other urgent situation is going on... which is every day since I am in a large city. In an emergancy situation.. at least in my state.. all the rules go out the widow... they have a legal right to work me 24/7 as long as I am getting paid.
Of course I can always say that I am so tiered that I may hurt myself... they have the right at that point to suggest that I take a nap... as long as I am on the clock.

What I am getting at is I know what it is like to work very long hours. It is very stressfull
both pysically and mentally... and gets worse as each day goes by untill you can't take it anymore
and call in sick for a week.. or use vacation or whatever.
Myself I am good for about 4 months of abuse before I take a week or two off.

Be nice to you're GF because she is going through things that not everybody has experianced for themselves and cannot imagine just how stressfull this can be.
The last thing she needs right now is someone causing her yet more stress by demanding attention
when she does'nt even have the time to eat proper meals or even sleep.

Well... anyway thats my 2 1/2 cents

Peace
Rich

You have to give her props though.. it takes every bit of her to not cry. I said she was on the edge of crying. Also she is looking for another job but the thing is it's really hard to setup interview time when she has to work 17 hours a day!! or 12 hours a day!!! It might be easy for you to say quit and go find another job but when she doesn't have much experience and the economy goes + she's got student loans to pay and other bills to pay its really hard for her to just quit her job and find another one. Might I add.. her dad passed away when she's in high school and her mom is in Taiwan trying to get by as well. She's practically here all alone.

Yea.. she doesn't have the luxury to get paid time off because she is a temp. But I know what you talking about though just watching her coming home at 1:15 AM just hurts. That's why I have been helping her out at home and stuff.

I'm on salary... it's not too bad... my boss usually says "just work your 8 hours, only stay if you need to finish some stuff" which is almost never (I'm a good multi-tasker). I get 18 hours of PTO a month for sick or vacation.
