Can Mac's with OS 10.4 and earlier connect to MS Windows Server 2008?

Can Mac's with OS 10.4 and earlier connect to MS Windows Server 2008? If so, must something in particular be done to make it work?

We have a PC tech guy at a client's site saying it can't be done. I did a search on the net and found some posts about people being unable to connect, but no replies. So I don't know if he's right and it can't be done, or they just didn't know how.

Thanks.

What exactly do you mean by "connect"? If you are talking about a network share I don't see why you wouldn't be able to "view" it, however I'm not exactly sure off the top of my head how the "write" goes for those because of the format differences between OS X and NTFS.

Im pretty sure, at a minimum, you'd have to downgrade the lanman security on the server to allow this.

Ah, I should have been more specific. Yes, I need to know if it can both read/write to the share.

Until Apple releases a patch, chances are you would not be able to connect to a Server 2008 share because they've changed the authentication from 2003. However, you can configure a 2008 server to use 2003-style authentication.
