It's annoying spam at the worst not malicious at all.

And this IS still a good tech-site/forum.
While true, the tone-deaf official response shows they fully intend to proceed with terrible policies. As has been made clear recently, the moderation team has also been stripped of meaningful control.
This should be opt-in from the start, in fact there has always been an opt-in checkbox for exactly this purpose. Apparently the PM system allows spammy staffers a way to skirt the policies and they must think themselves so clever for it.

This is really bad, you really don't expect this kind of sleazy and shamelessly pushy behavior from a reputable site, AT has really gone down since the purchase. We should like boycott AT for a week or something...

The unwanted PMs have stopped being sent as of a couple weeks ago.
If you see one in your box, its because you haven't checked it or you haven't logged in in awhile.
