Can it be fixed or opportunity to upgrade?

Well, my curious 9-yr old just placed a large purple blob on my old, 32" tube tv while playing with a couple of toy magnets. Is there an easy way to fix this, or should I be looking at this as an opportunity to upgrade my set to maybe a used HD Sony set from Craigslist? I don't have the funds for a shiny, new set.

You can try reversing it two ways. First, turn it on and off a number of times to see if it gets better. Second, you can flip the magnet and try to "correct" what he did.

I had a tv maybe 15 years ago I mistakenly set a bare speaker on top of. Weird thing was the tv somehow corrected itself and still displayed a good picture with the giant magnet sitting on top of it, so I didn't notice what I had done for like a week. When I took the speaker off, I then saw the top half was all purple. But the colors corrected themselves after a day or two. Don't know how, they just did.

Anyways, morale is, perhaps it can be fixed by just giving it a couple days.

Try unplugging it for a few minutes, then plugging it back in. The 34xbr960's by Sony are really sensitive to magnetic interference and tend to get purple blobs. Unplugging the set for awhile can help sometimes. Worth a shot.
