I would like to use the filter form my '99 on my '06. I know it fits just fine, the biggest difference I can see is that the '06 filter has a 14 Micron rating, while the '99 filter has a 19 micron rating.

The reason I would like to use the '99's filter on both cars is because it is ~1/3 the price and bigger. The '06's filter is tiny and it is a bitch to tighten enough not to leak. Every oil change I got at the dealer (all 12 of them until he car was out of warranty) the filter leaked and we'd have to tighten it. Then when I started doing the changes myself, it was still a pain for me to get tight enough to not leak. On the last change I used the '99's filter on it and I didn't have a leak problem at all.

So do you all see any problems with using the same filter on both?

EDIT: 99's filter is 19 micron, not 14

I also have a 2006 Legacy but it's the SE wagon and I've been using (flame suit on) only Supertech oil AND filters on it for the past year. Car just turned 31,000 miles and I have had no leaks or problems. If you have the turbo it may be different but for my N/A 2.5 original Subaru parts are just plain overrated......and priced.

Oops the 99's filter is 19 micron, not 14. Sorry about that.
