Can I use Single ended SCSI device with Differential SCSI CARD?

I have a new system without the ISA slots my old one had. I have an older Microtek E6 scanner and someone gave me a QLogic FAST!SCSI IQ PCI-D card to try.

I found the manual on the QLogic site and it says that the internal and external connectors are Differential. I know the SCANNER is single ended with both Centronics and db25 connectors on it. Even at that, I use XP and wonder if the old NT drivers on the QLogic site would even work.

Still, since I am only using a scanner, I wonder if I can make it work.

Perhaps I should just get an Adaptec 2906 and stop playing. I see the Tekram 315U is very inexpensive, but I do not think it supports XP.

TIA

What is the model number of this card. There are two different differential interface types. High Voltage differential (HVD) and Low Voltage differential (LVD). If this is an older card (suggested by the name FAST!SCSI) then it is likely HVD which wont work with your scanner.

LVD is what the newer drives are - Ultra2, Ultra160, Ultra320. Anything older that says "differential" is most certainly HVD which is *not compatible.

Thanks All. This is an older card...I bet 1995 or so, so I guess it will not work. I had thought the normal 50 pin flat cable interface was always single ended, but I guess not.

Perhaps I should look into the Tekram, or get the Adaptec 2906 and be done with it!

Hope HVD did not hurt the drive I attached to it!
