I am upgrading my motherboard from an Abit KT7A-RAID to an Abit KX7-333R. Can I use my current hdd without formating it? Anyone with a similar experience or knowledge? Thanks!

it is possible...

Most likley you'll have to wipe the registry...

You are better off to make an Image... format the new HDD on the new Mobo, then reinstall the image..

:p

good Luck..

Likely not. DOS or Windows 3.1/3.11/WfW yes, W95/W98 it might work, Wme and any version of NT or beyond forget about it. Linux maybe some of the newer versions can handle hardware changes.

The best recourse is to backup the data and rebuild it fresh so it closely matches your new system without remnants of your old one.

Thanks for the quick response guys! That was what I was afraid of. :( I have three identical hdd's, so no problem there. It is not hard, just time consuming. I can spend all day loading software and tweaking it for the new hdd.

FYI, I did just exactly that ! With same old and new motherboards, and a RAID array. The raid array just re-detected no problem, and the OS just need a couple of boots after re-detecting devices. So far, no burps. Win98SE. No guarantee that yours will do the same, depending on all of your devices and OS, but it can't hurt to try.
