can I use FRAPS to record desktop activity?

yea... can i use fraps to record my desktop? I'm trying to make a video on how to setup a virtual server using vmware, but fraps isn't recording anything.. Seems like its only for in games? I'm trying it now and it's not recording anything, and I don't have any games on this machine to try it out with..

What else can I use besides fraps?
