I have a powercolor HD 6850 card on a Win 7 system. Im looking to connect to an old spare 32 CRT TV, using either Component, S-video or RCA.

I know the HD-6850 has a analog/digital DVI output, which could be used to connect to a VGA monitor (using the provided adapter). My question is can i use a VGA to component adapter or a DVI to component adapter to connect to the TV.
The adapters would be some thing like in the links below

- http://www.dealextreme.com/p/dvi-24-...m-length-13184
- http://www.dealextreme.com/p/vga-mal...m-length-34417

I initially tried to install and get my old x1950xt for the s-video output working along side the HD6850, but after a few tries installing the ATI display driver, it became apparent that wasnt going to happen or windows 7 doesnt like it.

so im either left with gambling with the various cable/adapters and c if the HD6850 will give the analog output i need, or i would have to get additional HD series card that would allow analog tv-out.

if i do go with the additional card route, which of the currently HD series would have the component/s-video/RCA capability..? perhaps a 5450 or 4650...?

The cables will probably will not do what you want; typically they are a physical conversion only and don't adjust the signal. Some slim-line projectors combine a component/VGA input on a single set of component jacks. That's what the cables are designed to accommodate.

The DVI to component adapters tend to have more smarts and will do what you want. They also tend to cost a bit more money than the cables, so I'd be a bit leery of that one for $5. This one has some reviews supporting your intended use, and a price more in line with what I'd expect:

[Edit]
I'm wrong. Even the above adapter can't do it, it assumes a video card outputting component over DVI-I in the first place. You'll need to find some sort of active convertor box, like this.

i had a feeling, if the video card wasnt supporting analog outputs (s-video, component), using the adapter cables wouldnt do much for me.

then this cuts down my choices, after doing a bit research on the older HD series especially the HD 4650, i can came across this passage

Powercolor HD 4650

# Integrated AMD XilleonTM HDTV encoder

* Provides high quality analog TV output (component/S-video/composite)
* Supports SDTV and HDTV resolutions
* Underscanand overscancompensation

now this card has the HDMI, DVI and VGA slots, so using the above info i should be in theory able to use 1 of the cheap adapters and feed a analog signal into my old TV.
Plus this card will work with the 11.6 display drivers.

Am I rite or way off...?

What you want is a box called a scan converter. You can get them off sites fairly cheap now since the switch to HDTV. They convert VGA to composite or SVHS and work with any video card. Realize that CRT have a max resolution of 720x480 and anything over that will likely be hard to read for things like text.

This is perfect for $20 odd i could take a risk to c if it works and it would certainly save me money in getting another card. but i'm curios would a HD 4650 work along side a HD 6850...not in cross fire, but a primary and secondary configuration...? all indications i have seen seem to say so...the only thing that i concerned abt was Hd 4650 been a DX 10 card and the HD 6850 a DX 11 card....

What are you looking to do with the 32" hooked up to your PC?
Pretty much anything is going to look horrible on it, and forget gaming.

nuthing that is graphically intensive, just for watching streaming TV or downloaded TV-episodes. I was able to do so with my old x1950xt. so i know wht to expect.

so im just looking for the cheapest option to going back with watching some TV on the old 32".
