Can I use a media center remote control with a Creative Labs IR receiver?

I have a sorta weird situation here.

I have a creative labs IR receiver for their audigy remote control. I would like to pick up a media center remote control and I heard that the XBox 360 remote could work with media center PCs. However, the XBox 360 remote doesn't come with an IR receiver since there is one built into the XBox 360. So would it work with any IR receiver or will it only work with the Microsoft MCE remote IR receiver?
